Nursery Provision
The Curriculum
The Early Years Foundation Stage consists of seven areas of learning divided into three ‘prime’ areas and four ‘specific’ areas.
The prime areas are:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
- Communication and Language (CL)
- Physical Development (PD)
These three areas reflect the areas used in healthy development reviews by health visitors when children reach two to two and a half years of age.
The specific areas are:
- Literacy (L)
- Mathematics (M)
- Understanding the world (UW)
- Expressive arts and design (EAD)
The categories for these specific areas aim to reflect the holistic nature of young children’s learning and the subjects that this learning will eventually slot into in the school curriculum, such as art, music, science, design and technology.
We offer a tailored child-centred learning experience where your children work towards the Early Learning Goals but learn through play. We offer a warm caring environment where your children feel safe and each child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential, enabling them to develop their own sense of self-worth.
Staff plan activities to ensure each of the development areas are covered; thus helping each child move on to the next stage of development, whilst enhancing their natural curiosity. We have created an environment where all our children can make their own discoveries, both indoors and outdoors, as well as explore the cultures and festivals of others – both in this country and around the world.
Although acceptance into our Nursery does not guarantee a place in our Reception class, both Reception and Nursery work closely together to ensure a smooth transition into mainstream education.
Please ensure that when you apply you fill in your correct contact details, and inform us if they change, as we will be notifying parents via post about the outcome of their applications. If we don’t receive a response we will allocate your place to the next person on the waiting list.
The Nursery Hours
Inkersall Spencer Academy operates two 3 hour nursery sessions each day. The morning session runs from 8:45am – 11:45 and the afternoon session from 12.15pm – 3.15pm. We provide 15 hour or 30 hour funded places and take up to 26 children per session.
What can Nursery offer?
Early Years Entitlement funding is available for ALL 3 and 4-year-olds from the term following their third birthday.
15 hours –
Every 3-year-old child is entitled to 15 hours, no matter what! Speak to a member of the Inkersall team to find out more. Each child is offered 15 hours over 5 days per week (term-time only) of funded nursery education.
The 15 hours are offered over 5 morning sessions of 3 hours or 5 afternoon sessions of 3 hours over 5 days.
Top up sessions –
We also offer top up sessions to 15 hour children. This means you are able to pay for an extra session. For example, if you need a full day on a Friday but your child only has funding for the morning session, you would be able to pay £10 for the afternoon session – thereby having a full day in the setting. This is dependant on space and availability. Please contact our office staff for more information.
30 hours –
30 hour funding is linked to pay and hours worked in a week. If you are not sure if you are eligible for 30 hours funding please check the website below.
30 hours free childcare – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
If your child has 30 hours they can attend Monday to Friday 8:45am-3:00pm. Your child will be able to have a hot school dinner (payable by parent pay) or bring their own packed healthy lunch.
Nursery would be very happy to have your child 5 full days a week for 30 hours.

Frequently asked questions
When can I apply for a place in nursery?
There is no set deadline to apply for a place. Children are able to start the full term after they have had their third birthday. We do advise you apply earlier than this. Your child will go on a waiting list, the sooner you apply the more likely they will secure a place. We have two pupil intakes, one in September and the other in January.
How does school communicate with parents?
We use Reach More Parents and Tapestry apps where we share photos and talk about achievement. Reach More Parents is a great way to send a message to the team, if you want to check a date or tell us something that has happened at home and send photos from home. We will put important messages on there too. It is really important you sign up as soon as we give you your login. A team member will also be available for a quick chat at the start and end of sessions if needed.
How do we pay for lunches?
Inkersall Spencer Academy uses an online payment system, ParentPay. There will be information about this system in your welcome pack if you decide to apply.
Will my child need to wear a uniform?
Yes, there is more information about this in the welcome pack. Nursery children wear the same uniform as the rest of the school. We have an active uniform, please look at the section on our website.
Do Nursery provide snacks?
Nursery offers a milk and water along with a range of healthy snacks including wraps, crackers, breadsticks, meats and cheeses along with a variety of fruits and vegetables. The children have access to snack at all times throughout the day. Snack is charged at 20p per day (or 10p per day for 15 hour children) and this is payable via ParentPay.
How are places allocated?
We currently have a waiting list for Nursery. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. If several applications have been received at the same time, date of birth will also be taken into account with the older children being given a place first.
